Adam Thompson - Bohemian Rhapsody Live
Adam Thompson and the We Will Rock You band take their ode to Queen and Freddy Mercury out to regional centres in 2020.

When it comes to enigmatic front men, there are few that embody the power and passion quite like Chocolate Starfish's Adam Thompson. He owns the stage, channels the music, and has audiences eating out the palm of his hand. So it is no surprise that when it came to picking his next great project, Adam chose to showcase the music of his hero Freddie mercury and Queen in Bohemian Rhapsody the blockbuster movie soundtrack, live in concert.

Performing with the We Will Rock You band is a special coup for Adam Thompson, and for audiences. In 2002, Queen's Brian May and Rodger Taylor hand-picked the band in Melbourne for their hit musical. Featuring Simon Croft, Andy Swann and Andrew Patterson, it brings special revelry to the evening.

The Bohemian Rhapsody concert will feature hit after hit from Queen's back catalogue. With tracks such as Somebody to Love, Killer Queen, Fat Bottomed Girls, We Will Rock You, Another One Bites The Dust, I Want To Break Free and Under Pressure to name a few, it will be a spectacular evening from start to finish. Adam Thompson and the We Will Rock You band look forward to exchanging that love and energy of Queen with audiences.

Summer of the Seventeenth Doll

Plays and playwrights go in and out of fashion but some endure and speak to each subsequent generation.  Lawler’s much-loved tale of Queensland cane cutters and Melbourne barmaids has endured, not through nostalgia, nor because it spawned a new age in Australian writing, but because the characters and their dilemmas are so true, so beautifully observed, so humorous and so poignant.

A triumph at its 1955 Melbourne premiere, followed by a national tour and hugely successful season in London’s West End where it won an award for best new play, this 2020 production of the Australian classic Summer of the Seventeenth Doll celebrates the 65th Anniversary of this iconic play.

For sixteen years two Queensland cane cutters have worked the punishing routine up north in the sugar cane fields for seven months of the year and travelled back to Melbourne to meet up for five months of partying and romance with their barmaid girlfriends. This seventeenth summer everything is different.  One of the barmaids has ‘settled down’ and married a city bloke so a replacement date has had to be found.  This ‘off-season’ proves challenging for them all.

Part of HIT’s Australian Voice Tours for 2020, this production will be directed by the award-winning Denny Lawrence whose history with HIT includes many successful productions including Shirley Valentine, Always…Patsy Cline, Educating Rita, Glorious! Hotel Sorrento and most recently, My Brilliant Divorce. Denny will be supported by a highly-experienced creative team.

Note: This show contains adult themes and is suitable for ages 15+.

She recently reflected on her entire history with men and concluded that maybe it was time to shut up shop.

‘Whatever it is that I’m selling, a lot of straight guys simply aren’t that interested in buying it and I’m including people like my father.’

In amongst exploring stereotypes and her own desires, Judith Lucy will recount her full history with the opposite sex and leave it up to the audience to determine whether she should ever date again.

Should Judith hang up her vagina for good?

Beethoven Celebration
KING STEPHEN OVERTURE Opus 117
In 1811 the managers of the New Theater at Pesth commissioned a work based on the Hungarian history. The poet Kotzebue wrote a trilogy, based and Beethoven was commissioned to write the vocal and instrumental music. King Stephen, Hungary’s first Benefactor was first performed in 1812.

PIANO CONCERTO IN A minor Opus 16
Edvard Grieg had beginner’s luck with his A Minor Piano Concerto. Written when the composer was 25, it is one of the most performed piano concertos in the repertoire, and, along with the Peer Gynt suites, Grieg’s most popular work. The concerto opens with a Timpani roll setting up what is arguably the grandest opening sequence of any piano concerto. He preferred to think of his musical compositions as ‘villages, places where people can feel happy and comfortable’.
He used, as his inspiration the colours and characteristics of Norwegian folk music.

SYMPHONY No 6 ‘PASTORALE’ in F Major Opus 68
Beethoven's 6th Symphony is a kaleidoscope of colour, using simple folk like tunes and conventional classical thematic development. It depicts a day in the country and for the only time in Beethoven’s life did he give each individual movement a title. Some have said that this piece reflects Beethoven’s feelings towards the natural world, one in which his encroaching deafness was bound to be taken from him. The composition was first sketched in 1802 and premiered in an extraordinary concert Beethoven held in 1808.
Beethoven loved the country and he was frequently walking the rural locations around Vienna. He said his sixth symphony is “more the expression of feeling than painting”.

Mental As Everything

Mental As Everything is an original new stage concept by Melbourne based writer, musician and performer, Damon Smith. His personal day to day experiences with a diagnosis of both OCD and Bipolar disorder have helped Damon develop a transparency regarding his dealings with these two, widely misguided disorders and as a writer/entertainer, creating a show that blends comedy and music alongside an honest and though-provoking, reserched narrative.

As a creator, Damon invites you to pull up a seat next to him at the bar. There's a sense of intimacy, a hint of sass, and with MAE, there's more than a hint of the real man behind his work. Damon's performances ae peppered with moments of improvisation and with a wry and thought-provoking stage manner, he can turn the tone to comedic absurdity in the blink of an eye. Just like the mania and depression that he experiences in his personal life with bipolar disorder, the mood of the show changes rapidly, which helps to make Mental As Everythinga truly unique experience, allowing it to work on many, audience engaging, levels.

In this two-man show, Damon and his musical cohort, Adam Coad, will take the audience on a brilliantly unique and often awkward journey inside their own heads with hilarious onstage buffoonery and songs pertaining to Mental Illness. Mental As Everything features both original music and a few existing songs, written by well-known artists that have experienced mental illness.

This is a chance to hear the acclaimed singer songwriter Lior in a manner harking back to archetypal ‘salon’ concerts; where both audience and performer share an evening enjoying the connection that only proximity can offer.

Lior burst on to the Australian music scene in 2005 with his stunning debut album - ‘Autumn Flow’. Recorded and released entirely independently, and spearheaded by ‘This Old Love’ and subsequent singles ‘Daniel’ and ‘Autumn Flow’, the album became one of the most successful independent debuts in Australian history.

A swag of accolades followed, amongst them three Aria nominations (including Best Male Artist), as well as Triple J’s prestigious ‘J Award’ nomination for Album of the Year. Subsequent releases ‘Corner of an Endless Road’, (2008) and ‘Tumbling into the Dawn’ (2010) were also a huge success, debuting at #2 on the Australian Albums chart and topping the Independent charts for several weeks, as well as earning the gifted songwriter a further three Aria nominations.

Lior is known for his dynamic and moving performances, and has earned a reputation as one of Australia’s finest live performers. He is part of a rare breed of artists that has achieved a great degree of success and critical acclaim, whilst maintaining an independence and individuality in their craft.

Silvie Paladino - The Songs of Eva Cassidy

The Songs of Eva Cassidy is a celebration of one of the great voices of the 20th Century and who better to pay tribute to this genius, than Australia’s own Silvie Paladino.

Silvie is one of Australia’s most versatile and talented entertainers. She is a popular concert performer, recording artist and has starred in musicals such as Mamma Mia, Cats and Les Misérables in Australia and on London’s West End.  She is also well known to Australian audiences as a regular on Carols by Candlelight.

The show features her inspired re-imaginings of such classic tunes as Over the Rainbow, Fields of Gold, Autumn Leaves, Time After Time, Ain’t No Sunshine, Bridge Over Troubled Water, What a Wonderful World and, of course, Songbird.

My Robot

When Ophelia moves with her family to the seaside, she’s not impressed. She doesn’t like the beach, misses her old home and thinks the people in this town are pretty strange. While unpacking her room she discovers a mysterious box full of gadgets, parts and pieces, and a strange note that reads ‘You. Make. Me.’ Her curiosity gets the better of her and she spends all night assembling the objects into Olivetti, a robot with a typewriter chest and an alarm clock heart. Made up of pieces, but more than the sum of her parts.

Will Ophelia be able to keep Olivetti’s true identity a secret? Will the bully, Otis, fulfil his dream of proving to Ophelia how great their seaside town is whilst at the same time trying to run her out of it? Will Orson ever overcome his allergies and manage to leave his house? Will Ms Ogilvie ever lighten up or will she be Olivetti’s downfall?

But a bigger challenge is coming – can the pair save their friend and reunite him with his mother?

My Robot reminds us that we are all made up of different parts, and that when we feel less than whole we can find – or make – a part that fits.

Animal Farm

Animal Farm, one of the most enduring political commentaries returns in a multi-award winning, critically-acclaimed theatre production. George Orwell’s intensely powerful fairy tale allegorizes and satirizes communist governments while illustrating with stunning simplicity how greed and power corrupts with devastating consequences to all who yield.

Revolution has taken place at Manor Farm. The pigs have assumed control and all the animals, fueled by enthusiastic camaraderie and guided by a set of self-imposed rules, are promised a better life free from the self-serving greed of humans. However, it is not long until the rules that promised equality and freedom become the shackles that bind the animals once again.

Created by shake & stir and directed by Michael Futcher, Animal Farm promises to be one of the most shocking, relevant and wickedly funny theatre events of 2020.

Tubular Bells for Two

TUBULAR BELLS FOR TWO - AUSTRALIAN TOUR 2020

One album, two men, too many instruments! The multi-award winning hit show Tubular Bells For Two returns to tour Australia in 2020.

Two highly talented musicians, Daniel Holdsworth and Tom Bamford, battle with a stageful of instruments to reproduce Mike Oldfield’s classic Tubular Bells album live. One slip, and it could all go horribly wrong! The barefoot duo dash around the stage, performing a multitude of instruments live in an intricately choreographed, thrilling piece of theatre. For the audience, the fun lies in not only hearing the music of a classic album beautifully played, but also in the tension of knowing that the slightest mistake could bring the whole show crashing to a halt!

Tubular Bells For Two made its debut at the Sydney Fringe Festival in 2010, where it won the award for ‘Best Musical Moment.’ It then went on to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2012, where it wowed critics and audience alike, winning 5-star reviews and much-coveted Herald Angel and ‘Sixth Star’ Bobby awards, and has sold out concerts around the globe since.

MCO: Vivaldi's Four Seasons

Vivaldi would be totally astonished by the fame of his Four Seasons today. As a priest working in an orphanage, the majority of his music was heard by only a relatively small circle of people in Venice, and almost all of it was forgotten, lost or disregarded for nearly two centuries after his death.
The Four Seasons is not just well-known: it's one of the most exciting, colourful and innovative works from the Baroque era. Each concerto is accompanied by a sonnet, and the hallmarks of each Italian season, from birdsong in Spring to pesky flies in Summer, are imagined in amazingly vivid musical form.
Written more than 200 years after Vivaldi, Ottorino Respighi's quartet (opulently arranged for string orchestra) evokes a different, romantic image of Italy - picturesque town squares, languorous sunny days by Lake Como, young love and good living.

Program
Vivaldi - Concerto in F major RV141
Respighi Quartet in D major P53 (arr string orchestra)

Edward stays one step ahead until he’s ready to head home; concluding that being an emu might be just right after all. American Idiot
American Idiot is a coming of age story of 3 teens in a post 9/11 America. Set to the sound track of Green Day’s critically acclaimed concept album of the same name and featuring other hits (including 21 Guns and Know Your Enemy). American Idiot portrays a generation of disillusionment and dissent which erupted during tumultuous events such as the Iraq War. Beginning in small town America, Johnny, Will and Tunny express the desire to leave their home in the hopes of finding fame, fortune and something more than the small-minded mentality they’ve grown up around. The boy’s stories diverge on 3 paths and each learns that life is not quite what they expected. Dealing with themes of mental health, love, drug dependence, war and loss. This gritty take on the themes once provided by Green Day 15 years ago are still relevant and alive not only in this show but in society as a whole to this day.

He convinces them to tour Vietnam to sing classic soul songs for the troops and it becomes a life-altering trip to the depths of war and back again.
